The Blacksmith Shop and Gallery
Established in 1979 by Joe Koches, The Blacksmith Shop's goal was to offer to the general public the finest collection of master blacksmithing and art glass in the U.S. With this accomplished, we are now in the process of creating the finest international collection. We take pride in our shop and look forward to serving our customers.
The Blacksmith Shop is located in the Victorian Village of Ferndale, the westernmost town in the contiguous United States. Located between the Pacific Ocean and Humboldt County's majestic redwood forests, Ferndale is the best-preserved Victorian Village in California. The commercial district has been included on the National Register of Historic Places, and you'll find The Blacksmith Shop located on Ferndale's historic Main Street. The 1888 building is listed as a contributing structure to the Historic District.
The Blacksmith Shop was founded with one purpose in mind, and that was to present to the general public the finest contemporary smithing in the United States. To that end, we currently purchase work from 100 master smiths. The current inventory includes cutlery, table ware, a large selection of pot racks (30 or more), gates, arbors, benches, flower pot holders, fireplace screens (both iron and stained glass), fireplace tool sets, wood holders, andirons, tables, stools, and an amazing selection of lighting, hardware and other home accessories. The purpose of our website is to encourage you to tell us what you are interested in, so we can then photograph the current selection and email that to you.
The same principal of buying applies to our selection of art glass; we only offer the work of top master craftsmen. Mad River Art Glass, Ableman, Zweifel, Youghiogheny, Strini, Sledd/Winger, Salazar, Jesse Taj, to name just a few. Our selection includes paperweights, vases, bowls, and lighting by Lightspan. Let us know your interest. We'd be happy to email you photos of our current selection.
