Steele Wines was born in 1991 when Jed Steele, founding winemaker of Kendall-Jackson, established Steele and Shooting Star Wines while co-leasing a small winery until the summer of 1996 when he purchased the old Konocti Winery. Today, the winery, which is located between Lakeport and Kelseyville, is home to the Steele Wines winery and tasting room, a weekly outdoor farmers’ market on Saturdays from May through October, and the annual Steele Wines Harvest Festival held the second weekend in October and famous for its grape-stomping competitions for children and adults alike.

As both owner and winemaker, Jed produces more than 30 individual wines under various labels, including Steele, Shooting Star, Steele Stymie, and Writer’s Block. While Chardonnay Cuvee, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Pinot Blanc represent approximately two-thirds of the winery’s total production, Steele also produces small quantities of single-vineyard Chardonnays, five single-vineyard Pinot Noirs, three single-vineyard Zinfandels, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Late Harvest Chardonnay.
