Point St. George from the air

Photo © F.L. Hiser Jr.

This is the third most western promontory in the lower 48 states. Hike coastal bluffs with exceptional viewpoints for whales and bird watching. It also provides one of the few places in the county with spectacular 360 degree views ot the ocean and surrounding coastal mountain ranges. There is also a trail leading to the beach for fishing, beachcombing, and surfing.

One of the best times to go is in late March, during the dawn hours, when Aleutian Geese lift off in large numbers after their night's rest on Castle Rock. They fly directly overhead in skeins of hundreds.

Hours Open: Sunrise to sunset

Seasons Open: Year-round
