Douglas Park

Douglas Park is an unincorporated community in Del Norte County. It is located on the south bank of the Smith River 7.5 miles east-northeast of Crescent City, off of Hwy 199. Douglas Park is the northern access for the Howland Hill Road, part of the original stagecoach road connecting Crescent City to Oregon. This historical road traverses several miles of magnificent old-growth redwoods preserved in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. The road is not paved, but very car friendly. There are numerous trailheads and it is a great way to see the redwoods.

California's northern-most covered bridge is also on Douglas Park Rd. as it parallels the Smith River. Spanning Sheep Pen Creek, the scenic bridge was built in1976 especially for the Bicentenniel and tourism.
