California Coastal National Monument ~ Viewpoint ~ Russian River Offshore Rocks

Photo © Rick Hanks
A spectacular bird's eye view of 180 degrees of coastline features Arch Rock, an oft pictured feature of the California Coastal National Monument.
The Arch Rock overlook above Goat Rock on west side of Highway 1 is about 1 mile north of Salmon Creek and approximately 6 miles north of the town of Bodega Bay.
From the paved overlook and small parking lot, the view of the coastline is from north of the mouth of the Russian River to south of Arch Rock. While all these rocky features are elements of the California Coastal National Monument, other named rocks visible from this eyre are Half-Mile Rock and Mile Rock, off the mouth of the Russian River.
At times of low fog, this site sits above the fog bank and on other occasions one can stand at this site and watch the Monument rocks appear and disappear as the fog rolls through.
